Review – Sevin Dust

Good old Sevin Dust

I usually only review professional pest control products, but since it’s Gardening season and people from coast to coast are starting their gardens, I thought I’d mention a product that they all need. For those of you who have never tried it in your garden maybe you should. It seems Sevin has been around forever. It is requested by more than a few visitors to our retail pest control store. It’s easy to use and safe for eatables. You can check the label to see how long after treatment you may safely harvest and eat.

Sevin’s secret is ” it sits on the leaf and does not penetrate plant tissue, and is not Systemic.

Sevin dust is labeled to protect fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, and lawns from over 65 different insect pests. Sevin does not penetrate plant tissue and breaks down easily in the environment making it a safer to use an environmentally friendly product. Professionals have trusted Sevin 5% dust for over 30 years to provide protection from almost any outdoor insect.

Target Pests

Fall armyworm, Japanese beetle, flea beetles, leafhoppers stink bugs, raspberry maggot, blueberry aphid, blister beetles, box elder bugs, lace bugs, psyllids, leafrollers, tent caterpillars, thrips, millipedes, sod webworms, ticks, earwigs, ants and other insects listed on product label.

OUTDOOR USE ONLY. For use on fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, and lawns.

How to Apply:

Using a hand duster (for small jobs), apply a thin even layer of dust over the upper and lower leaf surfaces. The best way to use dust is with a dust gun, either the pump model (medium size gardens) or a rotary type like Dustin Mizer (for large gardens) is probably the best  way to get under the leaves where insects like to hide and feed. Refer to product label for preharvest interval days.

Lawns: 4 lbs per 1,000 sq ft. Vegetable Gardens: 0.5-1.0 lbs. per 1,000 sq ft.

  1. I bought 4 containers ,used all of it and potatoe bugs are still there eating my plants.Won’t waste money on it again. Many of my friends have said the same. Also every container is half full. They used to be taller and full…

  2. I checked the label and did not see potatoe bugs on it. ALWAYS READ THE LABELS. Products are sold by weight, so bottles are not always full. Sorry it didn’t work for you, but products are especially designed to work on specific pests. All products won’t kill all pests. READ THE LABELS and you’ll be just fine. Have a good one. Thanks for your comment.
